Volunteering in Fareham

The gift of voluntary activity is the key element which builds neighbourhoods and communities.  A recent survey showed that over 50% of people in the country are volunteers.  Volunteering can be in any form or shape.  It is a Gift of Time, Enthusiasm and Commitment.  Many people prefer to work together in organisations for a common purpose.   This is where Fareham Community Action hopes to help....

What is the Fareham Volunteer Bureau?

Fareham Volunteer Bureau aims to link Volunteers with Voluntary Organisations. The Bureau has a large number of tasks on its waiting list and has links with over 40 organisations.

Potential Volunteers can look at the 'brochure" of Volunteering Opportunities. There is a job for everyone's skills.

Recruitment Process

After potential volunteers have expressed their interests they are asked to complete an application form. References are taken and a short interview is held.

For some voluntary posts further checks about suitability are undertaken.

Training

Many voluntary posts involve training, either before becoming a volunteer or as "in-service' training.

Support

Ongoing volunteer support can be arranged through the Volunteer Bureau, even when the volunteer is placed with another group.

What sort of voluntary work would you like to do ?

Have you done voluntary work before ?

If yes what voluntary work have you done before ?

If you have a driving licence would you like to do some voluntary driving ?

Would you do minibus training then join the minibus driver "pool" ?

Would you be prepared to use your own car ?   (assuming insurance and expenses are in order)

We may have some volunteering opportunities to send to you for your consideration, alternatively one of our volunteer co-ordinators will contact you for a discussion about your interests.

Some volunteering work involves contact with children or vulnerable people; therefore recruitment to such posts would be exempt from the requirements of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1979.  In such cases organisations will enquire about previous convictions and will request Disclosure ( police checks) and references prior to involvement with the organisation.  A previous conviction will not necessarily prevent anyone from being recruited but due consideration will be given in the appointment process; more detail is given in the "Recruitment of Ex-offenders Policy".

Police checks are only conducted after specific permission of the person has been given in writing.
