Community Transport

Community Action Fareham Transport is a charity that provides transport for those who are disabled or have difficulties getting about.  Whether you are young or old, we can help!

Our Drivers
Community Action Fareham's Transport trains volunteer in the consists of  drivers that are MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) scheme trained. 

MiDAS consists of:
· Assessment to drive
· Minibus handling
· Passenger safety
· Wheelchair access facilities
· Legal requirements
· Accident and emergency procedures

It takes a drive and 2 half day sessions for drivers who commit to voluntary work is given for free.
Drivers need to be in possession of a clean and current drivers license and aged between 25 and 65 years.  See below

Our Vehicles

We have a variety of vehicles including two Mercedes 509/609

Our Mercedes 509/609 vehicles have:
15 seats
Can accommodate up to 3 wheelchairs

Note: The seating capacity reduces with the number of wheelchairs carried.

Accessibility

Each of our vehicles are specially adapted with handrails and low steps for those who are less able to get around.

Each vehicle has a has a lift or ramp for wheelchair and walking frame users.

Using a Vehicle

Community Action Fareham's Transport vehicles are available for hire every day for the community groups of the local area. 

Passengers can travel with walking sticks, trolleys, wheelchairs and scooters.  

Fees for using a vehicle

The fees are comprehensive including fuel, insurance, breakdown cover etc .  There are a number of matters that affect the fees. These include

for example a half day use of up to 4 hours which includes the first 25 miles when We have done all the liaison with the driver would cost £70.  This is the equivalent of £7 per person if 15 seats are used.

or with at least 4 trips booked and the group has done all the liaison with the driver a half day would cost £32 - the equivalent of £2.13 per trip if 15 seats are used.

Volunteers

 Community Action Fareham's Transport is always in need of new drivers.  We are a very friendly work team and appreciate any time given to help.

MiDAS

We require drivers to have a current MiDAS certificate for driving our buses.  We can offer MiDAS training to our own and other organisation's drivers.  Courses are run monthly and comprise a 4 or 6 hour classroom session and practical work.  A 1 hour driving assessment is arrange shortly after the classroom session.  The rates vary depending on requirements.  Options are 'Standard', with the 'Accessible option' and 'Refresher'.  Refresher training is required after 4 years.  There are discounts for voluntary organisations. for details click here
