Community Action Fareham
Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Processes
Community Action Fareham is registered as an "Umbrella Body". This means that we are authorised to countersign applications for Criminal Records checks for other organisations. Our main intention that this should be a service to our member organisations; ie Voluntary / Community organisations in Fareham. We are working with colleague organisations to provide a service called CRBH.
Organisations which have staff in contact with Children or Vulnerable Adults must assure themselves that they are not putting anyone with a dangerous criminal background in contact with them. So besides the interview and reference collection, organisations can request applicants to provide information about criminal records which would otherwise be considered spent. And then require applicants to obtain a disclosure certificate.
Details are available from the CRB website http://www.crb.gov.uk
To enable applicants to obtain a criminal records check, the requesting organisation must comply with various procedures. CRBH can help to lighten that burden. We will inform the organisation and provide an agreement that, if followed, fulfils all the requirements of the CRB code of practice. Details of the agreement and processes are contained in a pack.
Community / Voluntary organisations wishing to use the CRBH service must register. All the information needed is provided in this pack. Please call 01329 231899 with any queries. Click here to download the pack
Self Employed Persons
Self Employed people cannot obtain a CRB Check (see crb web page) - since they know if they have a conviction or not ! We are frequently asked about this - the only option at present is to obtain a "Subject Access" report from the police - this costs £10 and can be done in 40 days - it is based on Data Protection / Freedom of Information principles.
See the Hampshire Police website
The Metropolitan Police have a useful FAQ section about subject access click here
