The Codes
The "Codes" are intended to add the practical detail about specific areas. The national compact has 5 codes - Volunteering, Funding, Small Groups, Consultation, and one relating to Black and Minority Ethnic peoples. The Fareham Compact Partners group considered this carefully and concluded that it was not appropriate, at this stage, to try to develop all 5 codes locally. This was for 2 main reasons; firstly, we all have limited time to put into this and secondly the specifics of what we have to say locally are a) not developed sufficiently and b) not that dissimilar to the practice in other areas of Hampshire.
The Fareham Compact Partners group recognised the importance of developing 2 aspects.
a Volunteering code -- but this is based on the One Compact for Hampshire Volunteering code - launched Nov 05 view sign-up sheet
a Communications strategy to help all understand the different perspectives of the public and voluntary sectors
The Hampshire 'One Compact' group has approved a Volunteering Code that the Fareham Group has also subsequently agreed to adopt. The code can be downloaded from here. The Code is essentially a statement of good practice relating to volunteering. Fareham Community Action will assist any organisation in developing its policies and practice relating to volunteering. www.farehamvolunteers.org.uk
The Hampshire Compact group has also drafted a Funding Code for consultation - this relates to funding in relation to Hampshire County Council and not other districts. This is now out for consultation. Download from here.
